Argentina is a large country, a very large country, in fact. The duck habitat in Argentina is larger than the state of Texas. The wetlands regions of Argentina extend from the Brazilian border, all the way to the Strait of Magellan. But the heartland of Argentina’s duck factory extends from the province of Buenos Aires, to the province of Corrientes. It is in these stretches of the Parana River, and the provinces of Entre Rios and Santa Fe that the ducks have unrestricted access to crops like rice, wheat, and corn. It is here that the birds breed, forage, and multiply to unbelievable numbers.
Those who might worry that Argentina ducks could be in danger of depredation due to waterfowl hunting in Argentina should visit the country…it will become patently obvious that there are not enough commercial jets in service in the world to bring enough hunters on an Argentina duck hunting trip that would result in more hunters in the field in an entire season than the state of Louisiana sees on opening weekend.
The simple reason for this is that the citizens of Argentina do don’t hunt ducks and geese—only tourists do. Wingshooting is a very small part of Argentina’s hunting community. Locals who do venture out and go wingshooting in Argentina only hunt Perdiz. One will never see an Argentine shooting doves, ducks, or geese. In fact, they find it humorous that others are so fascinated with waterfowl hunting, and dove hunting in Argentina.
As a wise man once said, “Let sleeping dogs lie”. That should be just fine for us, that means the cost of Argentina wingshooting will stay low, and there will be plenty of birds for those who are so inclined to make the trip south, to do so regularly. Many of our clients who came for the first time in 2002 or 2003 have learned that a year without hunting in Argentina seems like a year of not hunting at all…maybe that is because ones money is so wisely invested in Uruguay hunting, or Argentina hunting trips—our clients tell us that they often shoot more birds in five days than in an entire season back home.
And when you go bird hunting in South America, that is what you want to see. After all, the culture of the country is delightful, the history is amazing, the food delicious, the wine sumptuous—but we know why you come! Birds.
Los Gauchos is about much more than Argentina bird hunting. Our dove hunting fly fishing combinations and fishing in Uruguay are very popular as well. Did you view the Golden Dorado fishing videos above? Trophy sized freshwater fish are found in Uruguay and the Los Gauchos fishing team will take you to them. A catch and release fishing trip, with an emphasis on the CATCH. Check out the photos of the golden dorado that were recently caught in Uruguay with Los Gauchos.
